Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to Rawdon District Elementary! I am looking forward to working with the entire school community – students, staff, parents and the general public to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for our students. I offer my commitment, energy, and enthusiasm in order to create a positive learning environment for all students.  This year will be one of growing, learning and gaining new experiences. One of our goals is to make the experience of education a meaningful, challenging and rewarding one for all members of our school community. By building on children's strengths in a caring and dynamic learning environment, we can make your child's experience at school a positive and rewarding one. We continually focus on implementing the best instructional and assessment practices available to successfully engage students in meeting curriculum outcomes.

Education is truly a partnership; we value and rely on your involvement in your child's education.  I am also a firm believer that the parents and guardians of our students play an equally important role in every child’s learning experience. I encourage parents and guardians to be active participants in the daily learning activities and school experiences of their children.  We use our agenda's on a regular basis for home and school communication. It is very important that these are checked daily and signed so teachers know you have received important notices.  An open, two-way path of communication is vital to the success of our students.  Please address concerns to the classroom teacher as they arise by scheduling a phone conversation or meeting. We will also ensure communication with parents through Powerschool, the school website, communication plans, calendars, agendas, and monthly newsletter.

We are thankful for the many parent volunteers that work collaboratively with the school to ensure we have help wherever needed.  Parents are often called upon to chaperone trips, coach, volunteer or for Home and School events. In order to protect our students, all volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Package, which includes a Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal Records Check. Packages can be obtained from the office.

Please note that the cafeteria menu and slips for the month will be sent home on the first day of school.  We ask that parents complete these a month at a time.  Although attendance is very important to school success, we do not encourage students to attend when they are sick. Please visit the Caring for Kids Website at if you are unsure if you should send them.

Looking forward to a great year at RDS!
